Derived from ground Oat grains, Colloidal Oatmeal has a long history of beneficial use for skin care. Oat is cultivated in temperate regions across the world, and has an established history dating back to ancient Greeks and Romans, who used Oat baths to heal skin ailments. It is effective for the treatment of severe eczema, psoriasis, drug-induced rashes and other skin conditions. Colloidal oatmeal is rich in protective properties that shield the skin against irritants. It has water-binding polysaccharides (long chain sugars) and hydrocolloids (a substance that forms a gel in the presence of water) that help maintain moisture on the skin thus enabling it to act as an emollient. The fats in Oatmeal have also been scientifically proven to improve dry itchy skin.
